Rookery School

Year 5

Year 5 encourages pupils to become increasingly independent, reflective and responsible learners while continuing to experience a rich and ambitious curriculum.

Growing as Independent Learners

Year 5 is a time for pupils to build greater independence, deepen subject knowledge and take increasing responsibility for their learning. Children are encouraged to think carefully, justify their ideas and use increasingly precise vocabulary as they tackle more complex concepts.

Learning extends beyond academic knowledge. Enrichment, outdoor experiences, teamwork and opportunities to consider citizenship and community help pupils develop resilience, empathy and confidence, preparing them for the responsibilities and opportunities of their final year at Rookery.

Learning in Year 5

Pupils build depth and fluency in core subjects while extending their knowledge across the wider curriculum. Teachers encourage children to make connections, justify ideas and use subject-specific vocabulary with increasing confidence.

Challenge beyond the classroom

The existing Year 5 offer includes outdoor and residential experiences at The Brighouse, designed to develop teamwork, resilience, confidence and physical skills.

Learning in the real world

Educational visits help pupils apply knowledge and investigate the world around them. Previous experiences have included geographical fieldwork and interactive science learning.

Citizenship and contribution

Year 5 provides valuable opportunities for pupils to consider their role in the wider community. Projects can help children understand responsibility, participation, empathy and how their choices can make a positive difference.

Working Together to Help Every Child Thrive

Strong partnerships between home and school are at the heart of everything we do. By working together, we create the best possible opportunities for every child to succeed academically, socially and emotionally.
