Removing Barriers and Promoting Equality
At Rookery, equality and inclusion are central to the way we support our pupils, families and wider school community. We work to identify and remove barriers, promote equality of opportunity and ensure that children are respected and valued regardless of their background, circumstances or individual needs.
Our approach reflects our responsibilities under the Equality Act 2010 and the Public Sector Equality Duty. We consider equality and accessibility across teaching and learning, the curriculum, the physical environment, communication and the wider opportunities available to pupils.
We regularly review our provision and publish information explaining how we meet our equality duties, alongside clear equality objectives and an Accessibility Plan setting out how we will improve access for disabled pupils over time.
Our Equality Objectives
Rookery sets measurable equality objectives that reflect the needs and priorities of our school community. These objectives help us identify areas where action can further improve equality of opportunity, participation and outcomes.
Progress towards our objectives is reviewed so that leaders and trustees can understand the impact of actions taken and identify where further improvement may be required.
Accessibility
Our Accessibility Plan sets out how we work over time to increase access for disabled pupils. This includes improving access to the curriculum, developing the physical environment where appropriate and making information more accessible.
Reasonable adjustments are considered according to individual needs so that pupils can participate as fully as possible in learning and wider school life.
