Rookery School

Online Safety

Technology is an important part of children's learning and everyday lives. Rookery helps pupils develop the knowledge, judgement and confidence to use digital technology safely and responsibly.

Helping Children Navigate the Digital World

Digital technology offers children powerful opportunities to learn, communicate and create, but it also brings responsibilities and risks. Rookery helps pupils develop the knowledge and judgement needed to make safer, more respectful and more informed choices online.

Online safety is part of the wider safeguarding culture of the school. Children are encouraged to recognise when something feels wrong, protect personal information, think critically about what they encounter and speak to a trusted adult whenever they are worried or unsure.

Learning about online safety

Online safety is taught through the curriculum and reinforced through wider safeguarding and personal development work. Children learn about privacy, respectful communication, appropriate content, misinformation, online relationships and what to do if something makes them worried or uncomfortable.

Talking to a trusted adult

Children are encouraged to tell a trusted adult if they see or experience something online that concerns them. Staff respond to online safety concerns through the school's safeguarding procedures.

Supporting families

Parents and carers play a vital role in helping children develop healthy digital habits. The school can signpost families to practical guidance on parental controls, age ratings, social media, gaming, messaging and reporting concerns.

Reporting a concern

If an online incident involves a child at Rookery or raises a safeguarding concern, families should contact the school promptly. Where there is an immediate risk of harm, contact the appropriate emergency or safeguarding service.

Working Together to Help Every Child Thrive

Strong partnerships between home and school are at the heart of everything we do. By working together, we create the best possible opportunities for every child to succeed academically, socially and emotionally.
