History

We are surrounded by history. Our intent is to create an understanding that the past influences the future through firstly appreciating our own school and community. To step out into the wider world to explore other cultures rich historical stories and the contributions these have made to our present. Through finding out about how and why the world, our country, culture and local community have developed over time, children understand how the past influences the present.

History enables children to develop a context for their growing sense of identity and a chronological framework for their knowledge of significant events and people. What they learn through history can influence their decisions about personal choices, attitudes and values.

Our aim when teaching history, is to stimulate the children’s curiosity in order for them to develop their knowledge, skills and understanding.

Geography

Our Geography curriculum aims to inspire our pupils with a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people. Equipping our pupils with knowledge about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments together with a greater understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes.

Encouraging the children to show their respect for their local, national and international environment. Their growing knowledge about the world will help them to deepen their understanding of the interaction between physical and human processes and of the formation and use of landscapes and environments.

We want our children to gain confidence and enjoy practical experiences through local fieldwork studies and in our wider community in Handsworth and Birmingham which has a wealth of both geographical and historical features.
