Rookery School

Year 4

Year 4 gives pupils opportunities to deepen subject knowledge, make connections across learning and apply their skills through ambitious practical and creative projects.

Building Depth, Curiosity and Confidence

Year 4 gives pupils opportunities to deepen their understanding and become increasingly confident in applying knowledge across the curriculum. Teachers revisit important prior learning, introduce new concepts carefully and encourage pupils to make connections between ideas.

Practical investigation, creative learning and first-hand experiences provide meaningful contexts in which children can ask questions, solve problems and communicate their understanding. Pupils are also encouraged to become increasingly organised and responsible for the quality of their work.

Learning in Year 4

Pupils continue to strengthen reading, writing and mathematical fluency while developing increasingly detailed knowledge across the wider curriculum. Teachers revisit prior learning and introduce new concepts in a carefully sequenced way.

Learning Through Discovery

The existing Year 4 curriculum has used imaginative themes to connect learning, including technology, electrical circuits, history, geography, art, music and dance. These experiences help pupils see how knowledge and skills can be applied in different contexts.

Enrichment & Experience

Visits and practical learning provide valuable context. Previous Year 4 experiences have included historical and cultural study supported by museum and heritage visits.

Growing independence

Children are expected to organise themselves increasingly well, explain their thinking and take responsibility for the quality of their work, while continuing to receive the support and challenge they need.

Working Together to Help Every Child Thrive

Strong partnerships between home and school are at the heart of everything we do. By working together, we create the best possible opportunities for every child to succeed academically, socially and emotionally.
