Learning about Science and Technology creates opportunities to develop the children's skills of investigation in the context of living things, materials and physical processes.

At Key Stage 1 the children observe, explore and ask questions, and begin to collect evidence to help them answer these questions, considering whether tests or comparisons are fair. They begin to develop scientific language to communicate their ideas.

At Key Stage 2 the children move on to explain their discoveries and carry out more systematic investigations using a wide range of scientific language to communicate their ideas.

Talk and discussion is an important part of all science lessons, as the children acquire a growing understanding of scientific ideas and processes.

Design & Technology is a practical subject providing opportunities for all children to design and make products, developing their skills, knowledge and understanding, and using a range of tools and materials.

First of all the children think about the purpose of the product to be made and look at examples of the product. Then they learn and develop some skills that they will need before designing and making their product. Finally they evaluate and review their work to see where improvements can be made in future.
