Our learning is delivered through a project based approach with content and skills linked and contextualised.Children's creativity is promoted through their engagement in a range of learning contexts such as Mantle of the Expert and special projects with outside providers, for example the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and Welsh National Opera. |
Thinking skills are taught explicitly across the curriculum to promote higher level analysis and innovative outcomes. As a matter of course children work with specialist musicians, sports coaches, dancers and linguists. High quality educational visits, visitors and out-of-school clubs foster pupils' self-confidence and teamwork very well.
Rookery has International School status and there is a strong Global emphasis in the curriculum. Global projects are jointly planned with our partner school on Delhi during teacher exchanges. These outcomes are shared via the Superclubsplus.com website, where all children have created their own web page, and many have articles regularly published on the site. Superclubs enables children to participate in forums about global issues and live conferences, for example year 4 were able to talk to a teacher in Kenya about water use as part of their science project, and year 5 learned about the Ganges river from direct teaching by teachers from our partner school in Delhi when they visited us. |
![]() As well as pure subject teaching of basic skills they explore cross curricular projects. In projects they use their basic skills to study a wide range of content led by science, the arts and humanities. Projects are richly supported by visits and visitors. They produce a variety of outcomes from assemblies and events which parents attend to art and design exhibitions. |
Rookery has worked with Creative Partnerships and Birmingham City Council through Art Sites and the constituency based Artists in Residence Scheme to develop creativity in all learners. Other Creative Partnerships Projects have included The Magic Key & The Labyrinth Project.
In 2009 Rookery wrote the Aspire Project for the Holyhead School Gifted and Talented Cluster. Also within the cluster we have worked with our Artist in Residence and on the Annamation project.
